About Mid-City
Mid-City, as the City Planning Commission draws it, runs from North Broad Street out toward City Park Avenue and Bayou St. John, above the Pontchartrain Expressway. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district.
It sits on what was the back slope of the Mississippi's natural levee, at an elevation close to zero, which is why it was settled later than the neighborhoods by the river and was once called the back of town.
